Ongoing or non-ongoing Vacancies

The Department provides the administrative support for the efficient operation of the House of Representatives, its committees and certain joint committees and a range of services and facilities for Members in Parliament House.

The Department is seeking applications from suitably qualified persons for promotion, ongoing or non-ongoing engagement to the following vacancy:

Parliamentary Service Level 4
Table Office ($61,748-$66,806)

The department is looking for a person with well developed communication and interpersonal skills to:

  • Provide:

    • personal assistant support for the Clerk Assistant (Table); and ·

    • support to the Director, Programming for the preparation of the Daily Program and maintenance of the Daily Program style manual.

  • Receive and process answers to questions on notice and maintain questions database. Answer inquiries from Members, departments and others concerning answers to questions.

  • Provide administrative support for the Selection Committee including:

    • collect matters for consideration by the Committee and prepare and issue agenda and briefing papers;

    • prepare reports for tabling, minutes of proceedings and correspondence;

    • notify Committee decisions to Speaker, Whips, Members, committee secretaries and others;

    • maintain and revise Selection Committee reference material, records and operational manuals; and

    • provide research assistance.

  • Operate and maintain relevant parliamentary IT systems and databases, particularly those relating to Chamber captions and documents.

The successful applicant will have a proven knowledge of Parliament and the functions of the Department of the House of Representatives or the ability to acquire this knowledge quickly.

Non-Ongoing Employment Register

The Department has an employment register that is used to offer non-ongoing employment from time to time. Applications are now being received from interested persons who wish to be placed on the employment register for the following levels:

The duration of vacancies may range from a week to several months. Vacancies that are available for a period of longer than 12 months are advertised and a merit selection process is conducted.  It is not possible to indicate when these vacancies may arise.

The employment register will be reviewed on a quarterly basis at the end of March, June, September and December; at which time applicants will be removed from the register. If you are still available and wish to be considered for future employment opportunities, you are required to re-register your interest by submitting an updated application each quarter. If at any time, details included on your application change, it would be appreciated if an updated version could be forwarded to recruitment.

Parliament of Australia Graduate Program 2012

The Department of the House of Representatives and the Department of the Senate offers three month placements to suitably experienced and qualified candidates who are part of existing Australian Public Service departments and agencies graduate programs.

The Parliament of Australia Graduate Program (the Program) enables participants to work behind the scenes of either parliamentary department and discover how the parliamentary chamber departments support the Parliament.
