The Biographical Dictionary Unit

The Biographical Dictionary Unit is part of the Department of the Senate. The Unit is responsible for the production of an ongoing work of reference entitled The Biographical Dictionary of the Australian Senate.

The work of the Unit involves the allocation of entries to professional authors and the verification and editing of these entries, as well as the administration of the project and the archiving of extensive research files. Officers of the Unit also write a small number of the entries.

The Biographical Dictionary of the Australian Senate With an introduction by the Clerk of the Senate, Volume 1, 1901-1929 The Biographical Dictionary of the Australian Senate, Volume 1, 1901-1929 (Ann Millar, ed.) was published by Melbourne University Press in 2000.
The Biographical Dictionary of the Australian Senate With an introduction by the Clerk of the Senate, Volume 2, 1929 to 1962

The Biographical Dictionary of the Australian Senate, Volume 2, 1929-1962 (Ann Millar, ed.) was published by Melbourne University Press in 2004.

Work is currently in progress on Volume 3, which covered the years 1962-1983.
